Who is Dr. Marsha Linehan
Marsha M. Linehan is one of the central figures in contemporary psychology. Creator of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), she permanently transformed the care of individuals with suicidal behaviors, chronic psychological suffering, and personality disorders. Her work has influenced public policies, clinical practices, and the training of thousands of professionals around the world.
In this event, Artmed launches the Brazilian edition of her autobiography, Building a Life Worth Living. It is a direct and moving account in which the author retraces her journey—from psychiatric hospitalizations in her youth to the development of one of the most important evidence-based approaches in psychotherapy.

Geraldine Rodriguez
Geraldine Rodriguez currently serves as the Executive Director of the Linehan Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the global dissemination of Dr. Marsha M. Linehan’s legacy, focusing on her life-changing treatment, Dialectical Behavior Therapy. In addition to her role at the Linehan Institute, Geraldine also works as the Operations Manager for Linehan-DBT Research Inc. Geraldine earned her MBA from the University of Washington in 2008. In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with her family and listening to podcasts.

Vinicius Guimarães Dornelles
Psychologist with a Master’s degree in Psychology: Human Cognition from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). Officially recognized Dialectical Behavior Therapy Trainer by Behavioral Tech (native Portuguese speaker). Completed Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Intensive Training (Behavioral Tech and The Linehan Institute, USA), Dialectical Behavior Therapy Training (University of Luján, Argentina), and training in evidence-based treatments for Borderline Personality Disorder (Fundación Foro, Argentina). Local Coordinator for Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Intensive Training Brazil, Board Member of the World DBT Association, and Managing Partner of DBT Brasil.

Êdela Nicoletti
Psychologist with a Master's degree in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a specialization in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Children and Adolescents, as well as Hospital Psychology. Trained in Teaching and Supervision by the Beck Institute, and certified in CBT and PTSD by the same institution. Additionally, received training in TREC from the Albert Ellis Institute and in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) from BTech/Linehan Institute. Currently, Director and Co-Founder of Centro de Terapia Cognitiva Veda/Brazil and DBT Brasil. Also serves as a Mentor and Tutor for the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Proficiency Program at CTC Veda/São Paulo, and is an Honorary Professor of the Training Team at The Nora Cavaco Institute in Portugal. Holds Certification as a Specialist from FBTC and DGERT. Author of books and numerous articles in the field, also responsible for organizing national and international events in psychology and cognitive therapy. In private practice, specializes in Cognitive Therapy for Children, Adolescents, and Adults.

Martin Bohus, PhD
Received an M.D. from Freiburg Medical School and completed residency in Psychiatry and Neurology at the same institution. Specialized in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, as well as Psychosomatic Medicine. From 2003 to 2021, held the chair of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Heidelberg University and is currently the Medical Director at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. Received several awards for psychotherapy research. Was a board member of the German Association of Psychiatry (DGPPN), past president of the European Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ESSPD), and past vice president of the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ISSPD). Also served as president of the German Association for DBT. In 2010, served as president and initiator of the 1st International Congress on Borderline Personality Disorder in Berlin. In 2012, served as spokesperson for the Clinical Research Unit “Mechanisms of Disturbed Emotion Processing in BPD.” Currently president of the European DBT Association (EDBTA) and has published more than 500 articles and book chapters, mainly on the mechanisms of psychotherapy, borderline personality disorders, and PTSD.

Andre Ivanoff, PhD
Professor at Columbia University in the City of New York, directing the Intensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Training Program and Lab, and teaching at the School of Social Work. Since 2011, served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the nonprofit Linehan Institute, now known as the Behavioral Tech Institute. The Institute’s mission is the dissemination and implementation of DBT. Also serves as the President of Behavioral Tech Institute, the training company founded by Marsha Linehan. Former Chair of the Columbia University Social & Behavioral Institutional Review Board (Human Subjects’ Protection). Research and clinical interests include the training of DBT in academic and post-graduate settings across mental health disciplines, development of DBT skills-based suicide and crisis prevention methods, and the broader application of DBT to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Author of over 90 publications on suicidal behaviors, DBT, and behavior change methods. Trains both nationally and internationally with outpatient, inpatient, residential, and correctional/forensic systems implementing DBT.

Charles Swenson, MD
Psychiatrist who attended Harvard College, Yale University Medical School, trained in psychiatry at Yale, underwent training in psychoanalysis, and was one of the first people in the world to implement DBT, beginning in the late 1980s. Trained with Marsha starting in 1991 and began teaching intensives in 1994. Since then, has been a practitioner of DBT, a supervisor and consultant, an expert trainer in many countries, and has published more than 20 articles on DBT and BPD, as well as a book in 2016, DBT Principles in Action, which has been translated into several languages, including Portuguese. Currently lives in Massachusetts, United States, with his wife and dog and has two grown sons. Visited Brazil to attend the CBT Congress in Florianópolis in 2025 and is thrilled to participate in a tribute to Marsha.

Linda Dimeff, PhD
CEO/Institute Director at Portland DBT Institute, in Portland, OR, and Founder/CEO of the Evidence-Based Practice Institute (dba Jaspr Health), a suicide prevention digital tech start-up based in Seattle, WA. Awarded over 20 grants from the National Institutes of Health over the course of the career, published three books (with another two in the works), and produced over 50 peer-reviewed publications. Had the incredible honor of working alongside Marsha Linehan for over 20 years, both in her laboratory at the University of Washington and at Behavioral Tech, and strives every day to bring forward Marsha’s work.

Shireen Rizvi, PhD
Director of Psychology Training and Director of DBT Services and Research at Montefiore Einstein in New York City. Earned a doctorate degree at the University of Washington, where Marsha Linehan was the mentor. Published extensively on DBT and suicidal behaviors. Board certified in Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and DBT.

Anthony P. DuBose, PsyD
Vice-president for Institute Services & Director of CE/CME at Behavioral Tech Institute, leading a team of some of the world’s foremost experts in DBT since 2011. Played a key role in the development and refinement of several large-scale DBT training models that have been translated into multiple languages. Trained and consulted with health care providers worldwide regarding the treatment of borderline personality disorder, substance use disorders, and suicidal and self-injurious behaviors in adults and adolescents. Involved in large-scale, systemwide DBT implementation projects in multiple countries and several U.S. states. Member of the International Dissemination Committee and the Training Committee of the World Dialectical Behavior Therapy Association (WDBTA), and serves on the WDBTA transitional Board of Directors as its Treasurer. Licensed as a psychologist in the State of Washington since 1998 and certified by the DBT – Linehan Board of Certification (DBT-LBC). Lives in Seattle, WA, in the United States. Received a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Pacific University of Oregon. Completed a Master of Science degree in counseling from Loyola University of New Orleans. Founding Member and served as the first President & CEO of the Evidence-Based Treatment Centers of Seattle, PLLC. Collaborated with Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., ABPP, and other researchers on the study of DBT, particularly related to its dissemination and implementation. Served as a member of the strategic planning group that formed the WDBTA.
